History

Bodega barberis’ family tradition began in piedmont, italy, in 1895, when our ancestors, much like many other europeans at the time, embarked themselves on a journey to the americas in their quest for a dream.

Around 1910, Humberto Barberis’ grandfather, Bernardo Domingo Barberis, built a small winery where he started making wine relying on the artisanal techniques he had learned back in Italy. However, upon his early passing at merely 42 years of age, the winery was sold.

In 1965, Humberto Barberis brought his family's tradition and dreams back to life by acquiring his first vineyard, where he soon began to grow his first grapes, which would then be marketed to other wineries for winemaking purposes.

Over the years, the experience he had gained in vinegrowing inspired him to acquire his very first winery in 1985, a most important step in his path toward fine winemaking. By now, Humberto's children were happy to lend a helping hand, and so the family began making bulk wine and limited batches of bottled wine, which were quickly sold to renowned wineries because of their excellence and high quality.

After some years of analysis and investments, the business took a new direction in 2000 by means of a new project: making and exporting fine wine, bottled and labelled under the brand Barberis, a decision that introduced the brand to new markets.

Today, hard work, perseverance and strong family values have kept Bodega Barberis a family-owned company that is entirely devoted to high-quality winemaking by combining tradition, technology and passion.
